One big baroque pearl on a paperclip chain — and the pearl comes off. The pendant is 33 × 15mm, large enough to carry a plain neckline on its own, and shaped irregularly rather than round, which is what keeps it from reading as a traditional pearl. In 18K gold, 18K rose gold or silver.

Buy The Set — 30% Off This Necklace

The Pearl Drop Hoop Earrings use the same faux baroque pearl in the same three finishes, and their pearls unclip in the same way. Put both in your basket and 30% comes off this necklace automatically — there is no code to enter. Worn together they read as a set without looking matched.

The pearl is a faux baroque pearl — man-made rather than farmed, and nothing comes from a shellfish. Because it is moulded, the pendant you receive matches the photographs exactly, with none of the size and shape variation a real pearl brings.

The Pearl Lifts Off

The pearl hangs from an opening ring rather than being fixed to the chain, so you can take it off and wear the paperclip chain on its own, or move the pearl onto a different chain of your own. Two necklaces from one, in other words.

The ring is deliberately small so that it sits neatly behind the pearl rather than competing with it, which does mean it takes a moment to open — worth knowing before you try it for the first time.

Details

  • Pendant: 33 × 15mm faux baroque pearl, on an opening ring so it can be removed
  • Chain: 3.5mm lightweight paperclip chain
  • Chain length: choose 16" (40cm), 18" (45cm) or 20" (50cm) on this page
  • Closure: carabiner clasp
  • Base material: 316L surgical-grade stainless steel
  • Finish: 18K gold PVD, 18K rose gold PVD, or silver
  • Water, sweat and tarnish resistant
  • Hypoallergenic — no green skin on sensitive skin

Which Length?

16" (40cm) sits at the base of the neck, so the pearl rests just below the collarbone — the one to pick if you want it to show above a round neckline. 18" (45cm) is the most chosen length and falls a little lower, which suits open collars and layering. 20" (50cm) drops onto the chest and works best over a jumper or with a shirt worn open.

Why Baroque Rather Than Round

A perfectly round pearl reads formal and a little traditional. The baroque shape is deliberately uneven, so it catches light from more angles and sits far more easily with a shirt or a jumper than a classic round pendant would. It is the shape that has carried the pearl back into everyday jewellery over the last few years.

The Paperclip Chain

The elongated links give the necklace a modern line and make it easy to layer — the pearl hangs clear of a shorter chain worn above it rather than tangling with it. At 3.5mm the chain is light enough that the pendant stays the thing you notice.

Packaging

Arrives in an Abiza suede pouch, ready to give. Add our Gift Box & Card option (£5) on this page if you would like the signature gift box with a gift card.

Care

The steel handles water and sweat, but avoid spraying perfume or hairspray directly onto the pearl — faux pearls have a surface coating that scent and alcohol dull over time. Wipe with a soft dry cloth after wearing and keep it in the pouch it arrived in. More on plated finishes in our guide to gold-plated jewellery.

Baroque pearl chain

Very pretty chain but fastener is.far too awkward. Pearl keeps dropping off when opening. Will have to give it to a younger smaller more dexterous person.shamw as I liked it otherwise.

Thank you for the review, and I am sorry the clasp caught you out.

The pearl is meant to come off — it hangs from an opening ring so you can wear the paperclip chain on its own, or move the pearl onto a different chain. We had not said so clearly enough on the page and we have now fixed that, so thank you for flagging it.

The ring is small, which is deliberate so it sits neatly behind the pearl, but it does take a bit of dexterity. If it is still awkward, email us at info@abiza.co.uk and we will sort something out for you.
