The root chakra — Muladhara in Sanskrit — is the first of the seven main chakras. Located at the base of the spine, it governs our sense of security, stability, and belonging. When Muladhara is balanced, you feel grounded, safe, and able to meet life's demands without being overwhelmed. When it's depleted, anxiety, restlessness, and a sense of instability tend to follow. The traditional colour is red, and the stones associated with it are almost always deep, dark, and earthy in tone.
