Can A Bracelet Be Resized?

Bracelet sizing varies from person to person, and it’s one of the most common questions jewellery buyers have. The short answer is yes — most bracelets can be resized by a jeweller, though the process depends on the type of bracelet and what it’s made from.

Can you resize a bracelet that’s too big?

Making a bracelet smaller is the more straightforward direction. A jeweller can remove a section of chain or links, shorten the clasp extension, or — for solid bangles — reshape the metal. For beaded bracelets, the strand is re-strung to a shorter length. Done well, the adjustment should be invisible.

What to do if your bracelet is too small?

Making a bracelet larger is more involved. A jeweller can add extra chain, links, or — for beaded pieces — re-string with additional beads. Matching the original material and finish exactly can be tricky, particularly if the bracelet has aged or uses a distinctive stone or metal colour.

How loose should a bracelet be?

A well-fitted bracelet should move freely on the wrist without sliding over the hand. A useful test: the bracelet should pass over your knuckles with a little effort, but not fall off when your hand is relaxed. One or two fingers of space between the bracelet and your wrist gives a comfortable fit for most people.

If you’re unsure of your size before ordering, measure around the widest part of your wrist with a soft tape, then add 1–2cm for a comfortable fit. We’re always happy to advise — just get in touch before ordering.

The easier option — adjustable bracelets

For most everyday jewellery, the simplest solution is choosing an adjustable design from the start. All of our Skinny and Fine bracelets come with a lobster clasp and 1.5” extender chain, fitting wrists from 6.5” to 8” (16.5–20cm). Our slider bracelets go further — the sliding mechanism adjusts to any wrist size with a simple pull. Custom lengths are available on request across most of our range.
